At the time this posts to my blog I will be sitting on Staten Island waiting for the start of the 2011 NYC Marathon. I will probably have been on Staten Island for 2 hours and will still have about 2.5 hours to go. With any luck I’ll be enjoying my time as much as I did last year while meeting some new and entertaining people, people with stories of raising money to support someone they love, people who got in through the lottery, people who have run numerous marathons and people who have never run a marathon before. Hearing all their stories last year was so much fun and made it seem almost like one big party.
I will probably come across someone who tells me, just like last year, that I’ve done everything wrong and should be careful running. And with any luck there will be someone that says, “You’ll do great! You’re ready and have fun!”
I will be going over the list of my sponsors in my head and thanking each and every one for every dollar they donated to get me here and I’ll also be thinking of all the people I know this year in the marathon. There are Michelle, Stephanie, Althea, LuminosityMama, Geoff and of course, Alison.
Alison should arrive via ferry shortly after this posts and I’m hoping to find her before we start. It’s her first marathon and I know she’ll do great. I want to high five her before we start and send her off into the streets of NY knowing that she’s going to have a great race and enjoy herself immensely.
I have no idea as I write this post what will happen during the 26.2 miles, but I am sure I will enjoy the journey and can’t wait to cross that finish line again knowing that I accomplished a difficult challenge! Soon it will be time to go back to the finish line on Monday morning and get my medal engraved again.
